State Library Council
The State Library Council consists of 34 members. The Minister-in-charge of Higher & Technical Education is the ex-officio Chairman, Minister of state is ex-officio vice chairman and the Director of Libraries is the Member Secretary. The representatives of the Rajya Granthalaya Sangh, Zilla Parishad, Municipal Councils and Govt. nominees and Officers included in the council of members. 38 meetings of the Council have been held since 1968 and various problems on the development of public libraries are thoroughly discussed, The recommendations of the council are generally accepted by the Government and implemented in many cases. The tenure of Council is for 3 years from its first meetting.
Book Selection Committee
Government has constituted a Book Selection Committee consisting of eminent authors, scholars, educationists and Librarians. The Director of Libraries is the Member Secretary of this Committee. The new arrivals in Marathi are made available to the members of the committee and list of the books being published by Directorate and being supplied to the public libraries in the state for helping in purchase proper books.
Manuscript Committee
The manuscript committee consists of Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education Department as Chairman, two experts in manuscripts rare as members and Director of Libraries as Member Secretary. The Committee has to select the rare collection of Marathi for the Manuscript Library. The total number of rare collection is about 250 in the Manuscript Library.
Preservation of manuscripts
A manuscript Library is being established at Mumbai. In order to make efforts to collect important old and rare Marathi manuscripts, one post of Manuscripts Officer is created for the purpose.
