In order to recognize the indispensable services of the Library staff and Activists in the Public Library Movement in the State, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan “Grantha Mitra” Award was introduced for the Best Library staff and Best Library Activists in the movement since 1994-95. From the year 2002-2003 “Grantha Mitra” Awards are given to the best Library staff and best Library Activists from each Division. The “Grantha Mitra” award consists amount of Rs. 25,000/- for the best Library staff and Rs. 25,000/- for best Library Activists in the State. Besides, prize of amount Rs. 15,000/- is given for the Best Library staff and Best Library Activists at the Divisional Level. For the selection of best libraries, best library staff and best Activists in the field of libraries, a committee is constituted under the chairmanship of the Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education Department.
