4-C Scheme in Nagpur and Amravati Division

Eight Government District Libraries in Nagpur and Amravati Division have been established at the District head quarters under the 4-C Scheme of the Improvement of Library Services of the Ex. M. P. State since 1955. Of which District Library, Amravati was upgraded as Government Divisional Library for Amravati Division. The Government District Libraries have been given the staff of One Issue Assistant, One Clerk, Two Peons and a Driver. The District Librarian is a Non-gazetted Officer. The main function of these District Libraries is to give library service to the local people and to render library service in rural areas of District, where it is not available. The District Librarian has to establish reading centres in villages, preferably in schools and exchange sets of books to these centres as per choice of the reading public. These sets are normally exchanged at monthly intervals. These district libraries have been provided with a separate buildings.  
    These libraries have been supplied with vehicles to facilitate easy exchange of sets of books. Recently, the libraries have been instructed to hold book exhibitions of newly published books and make propaganda to ‘See and Read’ the books.
